Johari Cole-Kweli and Bob Heuer will offer testimony to the Task Force, encouraging the State’s support of community-based food, nutrition and agricultural initiatives to reduce hunger and poverty.

Ms. Cole-Kweli, a former director of the Organic Farm Research Foundation and a founding member of the Illinois Local and Organic Food and Farm Task Force, is also a former Co-President of the Illinois Local Food Farms and Jobs Council. She continues to serve on the Council’s Executive Committee.

Mr. Heuer is a policy expert who has written extensively about agriculture, finance and regional economies. His consulting for the Farm Credit Council, the national trade group of America’s largest agricultural lenders, included the first financial-sector analysis of the local food marketplace and a report that led to the enactment of the Illinois Local Food Farms and Jobs Act of 2009. Mr. Heuer, a co-author of the new Wallace Center report, “Food Hubs:
Small-farm Aggregators Scale Up with Large Buyers,” serves on the Illinois Local Food Farms and Jobs Council
